Children of Brazilian citizens born in the U.S. are entitled to dual Brazilian citizenship, provided they complete certain administrative procedures with the Brazilian Government.
The first step is to register the American birth certificate at the nearest Brazilian Consulate. Once registered, you will receive a Brazilian Consular Birth Certificate, which must then be sent to Brazil for formal transcription. Within a few days, your official Brazilian birth certificate will be issued.
After this process, you will be able to apply for your CPF (Brazilian Tax ID) and voter registration card (título de eleitor). Both are mandatory documents required to apply for a Brazilian passport.
For Americans of Brazilian descent, these steps can be challenging due to the language barrier, as consulates provide most of their forms exclusively in Portuguese.
If you need assistance obtaining your Brazilian documents, we are here to guide you through the process—without you ever needing to travel to Brazil or struggle with complex forms in Portuguese. We offer remote legal assistance to support you every step of the way, safely and efficiently.
